Eagles announced the following coaching moves this afternoon:
- Pete Jenkins has retired as the defensive line coach. Special teams coordinator Rory Segrest will step into the defensive line coach position.
- James Urban, a quality control guy will step into the void created by Pat Shumur, and coach quarterbacks.
- Doug Pederson, the strong-armed hero of the 1999 juggernaut Eagle squad was hired as an offensive assistant/quality control coach.
- Ted Daisher, former assistant special teams coordinator under John Harbaugh (leaving the special teams coordinator position with the Cleveland Browns) was hired to replace Segrest on special teams. Football Outsiders ranked the 2007 and 2008 Cleveland Browns special teams units, 2nd and 4th overall in the NFL, respectively.
Raiders special teams coach Ted Daisher erupted in a sideline
outburst Sunday that he later apologized for, but some of his players aren't in
a forgiving mood.
According to three special teams players, Daisher shoved a team
intern, screamed at his assistant, yelled at players who looked at him and
challenged players to fistfights during a 23-14 loss to the Houston Texans. He was out of control," one of the players said,
speaking on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.
Yelled at players who looked at him. Awesome. I like this guy already. Seems like he's got a good head on his shoulders.
If he acts like that here, he will be the new favorite coach in philadelphia, regardless of how the special teams plays
How does quality control work on a football team? Is Peterson the guy who makes sure the jock straps get washed at camp?
Hopefully Pederson won't have to throw the jocks into a laundry bin. He'd miss the target every time.
If I remember Pederson correctly, the jocks would all softly fall just short of the washer.
They say that "C" students make for better teachers then "A" students. Much like mediocre athletes are better suited for coaching then great athletes. Given this criteria, Peterson will be the next Vince Lombardi. Times 10.
Pederson as QB coach ?
Whats next? Jon Harris as the defensive line coach ?
Will Quinton Caver be returning as the linebacker coach ?
How bout Todd Pinkston as the wide receivers coach ?
Gdog - did you read the previous Pederson post? Great minds think alike.
well on a side note...after watching the super bowl it seems obvious the cards are for real.
They should have won that game because they dominated the steelers most of the game. The Eagles better get a LOT better because this team isnt going to beat the cards or giants(with plax or boldin) next year. Shoot..WE better get boldin...hes a tough bastard with size.
I don't know. The Cardinals strike me as a one hit wonder type team that got hot at the right time. However, I said the same thing about the Giants last year, and they came out on fire and were the first seed. Regardless, defense garners consistenecy, and I wonder how a defense that was swiss cheese for 17 weeks plays next year. That NFC West sucks, so I wouldn't be suprised to see them in the playoffs again, but the Cards don't necessarily scare me on the go forward.
On the Eagles coaching front, I'm certainly encouraged that Daisher was able to milk such high ST ratings out of such a crappy bunch. Usually, bad teams are almost always bad at special teams. Also, from certain articles I read it seemed like a lot of other teams were interested in him. Good sign. I was not a big fan of Ryan Seacrest(er, Rory Segrest, excuse me).
