Is Peter King snorting 100% pure Columbian Arabica these days? Check out his
NFL power rankings as of this morning, May 11:
1. New England Patriots
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
3. New York Giants
4. Chicago Bears
5. Indianapolis Colts
6. Philadelphia Eagles
If you weren't aware King moved to Boston this offseason - so his deviant sexual attraction to all things Patriot-related will only get worse. But that's not my problem. My problem is team number four on the list - the Chicago Bears. At least you could make an argument for the balance of the clubs on the list - but the Bears? The Bears are going to meet the Giants in the NFC Championship game? I know this is the NFL and anything can and will happen but I'm not buying the madness that the Jay Cutler acquisition has been inspiring.
Jay Cutler has a record of 17-20 as a starter. When the Broncos were 8-5 last year and destined for the playoffs Cutler played his worst football of the year, and the Broncos crashed and burned with three straight losses (2 TDs, 4 Ints). Couple that with the fact that he has the leadership skills of Samuel Dalembert and we've got a live one. Cutler will also go from a receiving tandem of Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal to Rashied Davis and Devin Hester.
Ouch.
I should also mention that the Bears solidified their offensive line with the washed-up/overpaid Orlando Pace and there's an open competition at the RT spot between last year's first round pick
Chris Williams (14th overall) and journeyman Kevin Shaffer (I know Williams was injured as a rookie, but when a top 15
left tackle pick isn't penciled in as the starter at
right tackle, there just may be a problem). Throw in the basically unchanged, average defense, and presto, we've got a Super Bowl challenger.
I just don't get it.
Note: Looks like
Igglesblog doesn't get it either.
Peter King might surpass Bill Simmons in terms of pure idiocy...I'm not sure
Well, they're both homers, that's for one thing.
Well, hopefully, the Eagles will actually beat the friggin' Bears this year. Hands down the most annoying losses the last two years. Unless you want to count being swept by the Redskins last year. Regardless, I agree, the Bears are definitely overrated and so is Cutler. You have to wonder when a team is so eager to trade a "franchise" QB like that. The certainly don't grow on trees. I smell a little Jeff George coming off Cutler.
They had no choice but to trade cutler after their failure to obtain cassel. The Broncos new wunderkind couldn't have handled that situation more poorly...Matt Cassell had one good season with one of the best teams in the league around him - i expect him to crash and burn in KC...
The Belichik 'tree' seems to have the same maniacal / ego problems that Belichik has.
I agree - we'll see how Cassel performs behind a sieve of an offensive line.
