When we started talking about the McNabb era in Philadelphia possibly coming to an end, I had mixed feelings. After the Ravens loss, I was ready to pack Andy Reid's bags for him. There is one guy who may be nearing the end of the line with the Eagles that I have no mixed feelings about. When Brian Dawkins hangs 'em up, or, God forbid, suits up for someone else, I may just shed a tear.
The Dawk show has been my favorite Eagle defender for over a decade and when the team was dragging on the field there was always one guy in the uniform who was just as pissed as I was. It was Brian Dawkins.
No one on this team cares more about winning than he, no one on the team leaves it all out on the field like he does. You can always count on Dawkins to make the big play, step up when they need it the most. It'll be a sad day when he isn't around anymore. Let's hope we don't have to deal with that for a couple more years.
This was a roundabout way to tell you guys that
he won defensive player of the month honors for December, but it was appropriate. Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid have gotten most of the credit for the good football this team has played down the stretch, but Dawkins has anchored the defense, and they've just stomped everyone. Even the one game they lost was a defensive gem by this team, and Dawkins himself.
I hate to sound nostalgic, because that's not how I'm feeling right now. I'm feeling like Dawkins sees the end of the road coming up faster than he'd like and he's pissed off. I feel like in his mind he doesn't have too many shots at a ring left, and if he has anything to say about it, they won't fall short this year.
I feel like if there needs to be one defensive play made to win a game in the playoffs, he's going to make that play. And you know what? That's a great feeling to have heading into Minnesota...unless your name is Tarvaris Jackson.
Dawkins is by far my favorite eagle of all time. I love his mild mannered persona off the field as a quiet family man but on the field he is a un-caged animal. I think my favorite play of all time was in a playoff game against atlanta he hit Alge Crumpler so hard over the middle and I dont think Crumpler caught a pass the rest of the game. I believe in the same Game he also smashed Michael Vick in the end zone and Vick didnt do much running after that...Love Dawkins.
I remember that Falcons game. He broke Vick in half on that TD run and I don't think Crumpler's been the same since that hit. I would not want to go across the middle against the Eagles, that guy just loves to hit.
BDawk will forever be an Eagle. I can't imagine him wearing another jersey, and I think Andy and Lurie know how much he means to the fans. I'm confident they'll sign him to a deal where he can finish his career as an Eagle.
