I took a couple of hours to let this one sink in, gave it a ton of thought, and I'm pretty sure I can this was the best day of NFL football in my life. The two Super Bowls were both losses, so the days ended badly. There have been plenty of good playoff wins, but never anything like this.
What were the odds of Oakland beating Tampa, in Tampa? Jesus, what were the odds of them coming back from 10 down in the fourth quarter to beat Tampa?
I spent the first 3 hours flipping back and forth frantically between all three games. When Oakland came back I nearly lost it. Then you had Minnesota coming back to win and Chicago making a late push in Houston. I was on the edge of my seat. As soon as the early games were decided and everyone wearing green knew they controlled their own destiny, I started feeling better.
I can't tell you specifically why. I mean, this team has choked in must-win situations more times than I can count, but for some reason I had a feeling they were going to pull this one out. Little did I know that they were going to punch Romo and company in the mouth, then take a giant dump on their rotting corpse.
Getting into the playoffs is great. I truly believe that this Eagles team is capable of beating any team in the league (they're also capable of losing to any team in the league, which was the problem all year long). I don't think their run is over, and if they can play with this intensity, and with this game plan, four more times, who knows how far they could go. We have at least one more game, and I'm psyched about that, but how about bitch slapping the Cowgirls on national TV, ending their season and making Tony Romo cry on the field (plus, Troy Aikman in the announcer's booth). There really isn't a better script you could have written.
We'll have plenty on the match-up with the Vikings this week, for now, soak it in, Eagles fans. It's not often that things go right for this franchise, or for us. Enjoy it.
Players of The Games- Eagles - Brian Dawkins
- Raiders - Michael Bush
- Texans - Andre Johnson
Team Record: 9-6-1
Up Next: @ Minnesota, wild card game.
Ridiculous. That was just a ridiculous beating. That was a vicious pimp slapping. How else can you explain it? How bout them cowgirls?
I still haven't stopped smiling.
I think the most amazing part of the day was Oakland beating Tampa on the road - once that happened I started to get the feeling like we were finally out of the house and getting ready to pick up Destiny for her date. And our game felt like a giant snowball, after each big play the Defense stepped up more, the cowgirls tightened up more, and then it turned into a glorious avalanche of epic proportions. I agree that this team can beat anyone or lose to anyone, and they've already beaten the Giants, Cardinals, and Falcons, so who knows, at least we get to enjoy the ride!
One nice cherry on top - Belicheat and the Patsies go 11-5 and get left out. Ha.
Back to that Destiny girl, call me crazy, but with the phils winning the world series I think anything is possible. Maybe they'll break our hearts but it's worth believing anyway. Like the sixers later this year limping into the playoffs with the eight seed and knocking out the big bad celtics. Destiny is calling, let's go pick her up!
I like the way you think. Let's make Childress cry next Sunday.
I'm not ready to move on to the Vikings yet. I want to savor this one a while longer.
I was prepared to be satisfied with the role of spoiler. For all the matchups to break the right away (again, after the Eagles crapped the bed against washington) and then for the Eagles to just completely annihilate dallas like that was more than I dared to hope for.
I've been a "fire Reid" guy. Fire the monotone, boring "Time's yours" guy. Don't fire the fired-up, bearded, arm-flapping fat crazy guy we saw on Sunday. THAT was the passion we've wanted to see from these guys all year. In the Reid Era, I think only the 2004 NFC Championship was more enjoyable than that game. I've never enjoyed being an Eagles fan as much as I did when the Dallas fans slunk out of the bar in Atlantic City early in the 3rd quarter.
