Mock Draft Spectacular

Due to the compressed time frame after the Peters trade a lot of earlier user submissions had to be disregarded because of their irrelevancy.  Perhaps next year you'll be lucky enough to nab the grand prize of this little contest - a used Max Jean-Gilles jock strap in all of its glory.  I assure you - it smells like rainbow.  On to some of the better user submissions.....

Last year's defending champion:

Pick 21:  Vontae Davis, CB

I'm sticking with this pick, especially given today's news that Brown is not happy with his contract.  Darius Butler is also a possibility here.

Pick 53:  Andre Brown, RB

Sticking with Brown because, this is a pick I'd like to see, but I don't think it will happen.  Having addressed OL at #28, and knowing they won't address WR, I'm left with DL or RB because I really don't want any of the TEs available at this point.  I could seem them taking Sidbury from Richmond or Gilbert from San Jose State, but I like a 220+ pound RB who runs a sub 4.4.  If they don't take Brown I could also live with Green from Iowa - actually I'd take whichever is smarter and can learn how to pick up a blitz better.  Finally, it's tough not to take Chung the safety from Oregon here, but they seem to have a lot of safeties in the fold for now and they really need a RB.

Pick 85:  Richard Quinn, TE

I had Barden the 6'6" WR first, but now I think the Birds are committed to running the ball more.  With Brown drafted, Peters at LT, and a real FB, Quinn is the final piece to the running game puzzle - a TE who can block.

Not bad - I'm not totally sold on Davis given his lackadaisical work ethic, but he certainly has all the tools to be a potential Pro Bowler.  Andre Brown is a good value at number 53, and Dick Quinn would probably contribute as an inline blocker from day one.

Another option from reader Quix Start:

Pick 21: Donald Brown, RB Connecticut

Has good all-around skills and better production than McCoy in the same conference. Has good speed, can run inside and out. Will need to improve as receiver and blocker but shows at least adequate ability there. Looks like he would be a quality runner, not quite the guy you would want in on 3rd down and long though.

Pick 53: Chase Coffman, TE Missouri

So he's just a tall, slower WR, right? I think he is a great red zone threat. He has a great pedigree and can step right in and be a threat in the passing game. He understands football and has good work ethic. Hopefully he can evolve into a slightly below average blocker since the quickness and desire are there. He has as good hands as anyone in the draft just not the athleticism of the others. I'd rather have someone who will always catch the ball and understands how to run routes (i.e. be past the first down marker) than a supreme athlete.

(Note: Too high for D.Brown but I like the combination of D.Brown and Coffman better than Pettigrew and A.Brown which would be my other option. Pettigrew would be a great choice but is not quite the same receiving red zone threat and Andre Brown has less production than other RBs but looks like he could be the inside runner that can also catch and block and take over for Buckhalter.)

Pick 85: Victor Harris, CB Virginia Tech

Has multiple skills including being a capable kickoff and punt returner. Only lacks elite deep speed but has ball skills and football attitude. Is 3rd round too high for probable career back-up? Maybe. But he plays a critical position and I really do not trust Hanson as starting CB if Samuel or Brown are hurt. He could probably play free safety and will be a good special teamer. I imagine his role similar to Demps last year. Is a bit of a punk so might not fit the Eagles' mold.

I'm not the biggest fan of Donald Brown (he lacks that "it" factor to me when I watch his tape on youtube) but there are plenty of scouts that would disagree with my opinion.  I like the Chase Coffman pick for the sheer skill the guy could bring to the receiving corps - if there are no real impact receivers available to the Birds this year, why not select an impact receiving TE?  Victor "Macho" Harris is a guy who's played wide receiver, cornerback, safety, running back and contributed as a return man in college.  At worst he seems to be a core special teamer, at best he may be a versatile corner/safety hybrid at the next level.

Submission number three - from the always impressive Draft Drunkie:

#21 - LeSean McCoy

#53 - Patrick Chung

#85 - Cornelius Ingram

Impressive draft haul - however, I'm disqualifying the submission since there was no supporting documentation.

So.....the winner, and still undefeated champion of the Mock Draft Spectacular is Jay Strock.  Back-to-back championships are hard to come by in this day and age.  If he wins again next year, we'll officially have a dynasty on our hands.

Strock, your jock will be put in the mail, priority service.  Now that you will have two, I suggest you make earrings out of them and wear them out on the town.  Congrats.

Thanks Dave. I'm going to trade one of my MJG jocks for a 10 gallon bucket of hair product and try to usurp Kiper's job with ESPN.
