A source close to the situation confirmed last night that Doug Pederson, everyone's favorite former Eagles quarterback, is returning to the team in a coaching role. It would seem to make sense that Pederson would coach the quarterbacks, replacing Pat Shurmur, who was just hired to run St. Louis' offense by ex-Eagles assistant Steve Spagnuolo. But indications are that someone else will coach the QBs and that Pederson might just replace "offensive assistant'' Mark Whipple, who left the Birds yesterday after 1 year on the staff to become the offensive coordinator for the Miami Hurricanes.
So it could be either QBs coach or offensive
assistant. Question for you: Has Doug Pederson ever really assisted any
offense? Good thing previous performance on the field is not an indicator
of coaching prowess. Where else should the Birds look for coaching
replacements?

I was glancing at the comprehensive list on PE.com of every player who ever has donned an Eagles uniform, it was a rigorous process developing my coaching staff.
One thing that the exercise proved was the apprehension we should have in just jettisoning McNabb. I saw guys like Hoying, Brister, Peete, Goebel, M. McMahon, Pederson, the Detmers, Hasselbeck, P. Ryan, etc.
By the way Strock, Jim Ward (1971-72) played 2 games as QB of the Eagles. His alma mater? Gettysburg College. I may have to get a Ward #7 throwback jersey.
Dave,
You made my day! It makes me proud to know the juggernaut that is Bullet football produced an NFLish quality QB. I can't believe his name is not inscribed in stone somewhere on Bream.
Guys imagine if the iggles could get brandon jacobs to compliment westbrook. That would be a friggin dynamic combo, it would, I believe give us the strongest rushing attack in the league. Also with Jacobs you take a lot of pressure off B-West's shoulders. I think if we go for one guy this offseason, it's got to be jacobs.
I wouldn't disagree that getting Jacobs would be great, but I wonder how committed the Eagles are to getting a compliment for Westbrook like Jacobs. I mean, look at this year. Buck had a great year, and was running strong, and they still refused to give him the ball, even when Westy was clearly not 100%. If there is going to be a compliment to Westbrook, it's probably going to have to be someone who can do most of the same things Westbrook does, not a power guy. For instance, look at their move to get Booker last year and the drafting of Ryan Moats several years ago. Albeit, both failed attempts, I think they want a guy they can just plug in for Westbrook when needed, and not change the nature of their offense. Hopefully, there is a guy similar in the draft this year that is a difference maker. Brockman, any canidates for this role you see in the draft?
I have to look at the RBs. I haven't really dug into them yet. There are a good crop of RBs coming out this. I'll get back to you on this one.
