Dan Leone's (the gate attendant that was fired by the Eagles for calling the team "retarted" on his Facebook page) stepfather was on WIP this morning and called his stepson's firing an "atrocity." So lets see where this ranks on the atrocity list these days:
1. Mass genocide in Darfur
2. Dan Leone's firing
3. Human rights violations in Burma
That's pegged about right. Leone's stepfather also went on to ask where freedom of speech has gone in this country. I think my head is going to explode. Freedom of speech doesn't extend into the workplace you nitwit.

Unbeknownst to me, Weaver is known to have one of the best stiff arms in the NFL, thus the nickname, Leonard Weaver, the "Face Cleaver."

I have a feeling the Birds are gearing up for something big in the coming weeks. Four 5th round picks, two 1st round picks, and tons of money under the cap. The Birds can afford to trade for any disgruntled player in the NFL and pay him handsomely. Maybe Anquan Boldin. Maybe Jason Peters. Something is coming.
Is there anything in the history to indicate such a hope. I mean Boldin isn't even for sure on the market now is he? In San Diego about 80% of the fanbase was convinced Tomlinson was gone and now he has a restructured deal. Warner gave the Cards a discount maybe with the understanding they'd keep Boldin.
Do you really think so or is it just wishful thinking?:)
I don't know a lot about football in general or the eagles specifically but so far the off season seems to be more losses than gains.
Dave,
Regarding Leone's firing from the Eagles, it's not a matter of free speech, he can say what he wants (with a few exceptions), the issue is that he's an at-will employee. Absent a contract, you're an at-will employee and you can be fired for whatever the hell your employer wants. Wear a Giants hat to the gate one Sunday - fired; black belt with brown shoes - fired; fart in a meetign - fired. As an at-will employee you have few rights, and while it may be a bad PR move for the Birds, there's nothing illegal about it.
The Birds have way too much money and way too many draft picks. I really think something is going to happen. For all the shit the Birds get, they usually do make a splash when needed. Owens, Kearse, Samuel - prior to the last 2 years they were always trading up in the draft.
Exactly Strock. Too few understand this. I remember my first job out of college - I basically had to sign a form that said just that - we can fire you for any or no reason at all.
Dave,
I hope you're right. I also believe there is something brewing behind closed doors at the NovaCare complex that will change the face of the team. I hope it's a move for Boldin, he would be a perfect compliment to this offense - the short to medium range RAC guy with Jackson as the speed deep threat and Curtis as the slot receiver. Perfect. We can only keep our fingers crossed.
Nice work here Dave. I just wrote a similar post on the topic: http://heardinthecheapseats.com/2009/03/11/do-the-eagles-have-a-grand-plan/.
I agree that the Eagles are stacking their chips in an effort to make a big move. I'm just not sure they are going to find any willing participants. Boldin and Peters are the obvious targets, but neither of those seem likely at the moment. I hope I am wrong, but I don't share in your optimism.
NOW it's gone too far
I'm browsing through the ESPN chats for this week (i read them during my lunch) and Dan Leone had a chat today at 3 PM Eastern time.
I won't read the chat but I do hope he's mocked soundly for being a moron (which is funny when you think about how he referred to the eagles, but it's probably a more apt insensitive appellation for him)
I had a dream last night and this is what happened:
Eagles sign FB Leonard Weaver and get a much needed FB, and maybe 3rd and 4th down back.
In the draft the Eagles draft Moreno and Eugene Monroe in the first round, Rashad Jennings, and a sleeper- in the 5th round Ramses Barden.
Moreno, Westbrook's eventual replacement and can contributr this year with his hands, and his cutback ability. Jennings a big 6 ft. 1 in. back that would provide a perfect compliment to Westbrook. This gives us a tuly potent "Three Headed Monster" that would easily take us to the Super Bowl.
The sleeper- Romare Barden, is a 6ft. 6in. WR from CAL Poly whose got great hands, at the 5th round he's a low risk- high reward type of guy.
Guys will this dream come true- At least some of it...
Unless he gets arrested or gets into a car wreck there is no way Monroe drops to the Eagles. Almost every mock I've seen has him in the top 10, if not the top 5. Moreno is likelier to be around now as Beanie Wells cranked a mid 4.3 at his Pro Day so he'll probably be the first back drafted.
