The Eagles got a much needed victory on Sunday night when they erased a three point deficit midway in the 4th quarter, scoring the go ahead touchdown with a little over five minutes to play in the game. Rookie RB LeSean McCoy's 10 yard run, which capped off a 62 yard drive, put Philadelphia on top 24-20 and that is how the game ended. The Bear's had one final shot to win the game, but Jay Cutler was intercepted by Sean Jones with a little less than a minute to play.
The win moves the Eagles record to 6-4, one game behind the Dallas Cowboys, who squeaked out a 7-6 win over Washington earlier in the day. It also puts them in prime position to secure a wildcard spot in the playoffs as well as keep them firmly in the chase for the NFC East division title. The Bears fell to 4-6 on the season and currently out of the NFC playoff picture.
Philadelphia used a balanced attack on offense all night long, effectively mixing runs and passes that allowed them to move the ball against Chicago. McCoy, who is filling in for the injured Brian Westbrook, ended the game with 99 yards on 20 carries. FB Leonard Weaver added nine yards on three carries, and Michael Vick made his biggest contribution of the season when he ran for 34 yards on a play that set up the Eagles first score, a David Ackers 25 yard field goal. Donovan McNabb passed for 244 yards completing 23 of 32 attempts and 2 TD's. His second TD of the night came in the 3rd quarter when he threw a perfect 48 yard strike to DeSean Jackson. That score put the Eagles up 17-12 with just under six minutes to play in the quarter.
With the Giants and Cowboys winning on Sunday this was a game that Eagles desperately needed to win and they went out and got the job done. With a patchwork linebacker core and defensive secondary, they were able to hold the Bears in check for most of the game. Cutler ended the night with only 171 yards passing, completing 24 of his 43 attempts for 1 TD and 1 interception. RB Matt Forte was held to 34 yards on 14 carries and TE Greg Olsen had 6 receptions for 42 yards. Chicago had 284 yards of total offense and converted only 3 of 16 third downs attempts. All in all this was solid defensive effort despite all the recent injuries they have endured.
Next up for the Birds is rematch with the Redskins this Sunday, who they beat 27-17 back in week seven in Washington. This time they will be in the friendly confines of Lincoln Financial Field in a 1:00 P.M. start. This will be a golden opportunity for the Eagles to start to string some victories together as after playing the 'Skins they are back on the road against Atlanta on December 6th followed by the N.Y. Giants in another Sunday night game on December 13th .
